Objectives
When it comes to ICTs in the context of EU policies, 2010 represents a very symbolic date since the i2010, Lisbon strategy translation into the field of the Information Society, comes to an end. A renewed initiative following its path will be launched during the Spanish Presidency, based on the grounds of the previous works driven by the Swedish Presidency (Visby Agenda) and the European Commission.
The Spanish Presidency (in coordination with Belgium and Hungary, the Trio), is leading this initiative. With the purpose of contributing to a process as inclusive as possible, the main European ICT industry associations were invited in 2009 to present their points of view on common goals and key issues that this sector will have to face in Europe in the coming years. This exercise has been chaired by Dr. Enrique Barón, former President of the European Parliament.
In order to make this initiative as widely known as possible, a high-level report produced by the above mentioned ICT associations will be publicly presented in Madrid on January 18th, 2010. The document will include a European Industry Declaration expressing the main concerns and priorities the ICT sector proposes to EU institutions and Governments. Therefore, it will provide material especially valuable to structure the new strategy for the European Information Society (post i2010).
This meeting, the first event of the Spanish Presidency in 2010, will provide a very valuable input for the European Institutions and Member States and will help them in the design of policies and actions plans for the renewed post i2010 strategy.
In order to make this initiative as widely known as possible, a press conference with international and national media will follow the presentation of the Report.
