Planning and management in tourism destinations

Strategic objective:

This programme includes strategies to encourage the development of tools that assess the competitiveness and sustainability of destinations. In strict terms of tourism and environmental sustainability, this refers to the implementation of Agenda 21 Local for tourism. 2008 saw completion of the design and application of a working method that will help Local Bodies to advance in their commitment to achieving sustainable tourism development, so that local councils have specific, easily applicable tools at their disposal when it comes to planning and managing tourism in their area of responsibility as Local Bodies. This methodology is to be tested across 12 pilot municipalities.

In addition, to promote the planning and management methodology for tourism destinations, a Local Tourism Management Manual has been published in collaboration with the FEMP (Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces). It was presented at the FEMP-organised conference in Madrid, 7 July 2008.
